ARCH OF TRAJAN

The Arch of Trajan of Benevento is a celebratory arch dedicated to Emperor Trajan on the occasion of the opening of Via Traiana, a variant of the Via Appia that shortened the journey between Benevento and Brindisi. The monument, which is substantially intact, including the numerous sculptural reliefs that decorate its surfaces, turns out to be the Roman triumphal arch with better preserved reliefs.

Completed: BETWEEN 114 AND 117 AD
